GT-R Challenge sees some of the fastest and most powerful GT-Rs in Australia come together.

Drag Battle sees the quickest and fastest import street cars, including Silvias, Evo Lancers, Skylines and WRXs.

Plus an array of highly modified hi-tech street cars, converge to battle it out on the Cootamundra runway over two days for the title of Australia’s fastest true hi-tech street car.

ENTRY IS BY APPLICATION ONLY, TO APPLY:

If your car is approved you will be sent an entry and payment form via email.

Only approved cars are eligible to complete this form.

Ultimate Street Car returns in 2024 as ‘Ultimate Tuner Car’.

All cars wishing to enter will meet at Yass on Thursday 11th April at 11am, then drive to Cootamundra Airport to perform various tests.

MOTIVE VIDEO CUSTOMER VIEWING PASSES

Although the event is a private film shoot and not open to spectators, a small amount of “behind-the-scenes” passes are available exclusively for loyal Motive Video customers.

The option to buy tickets will only be sent out to existing Motive Video online store customers via email.

ENTRY CRITERIA

To enter the 2024 Drag Battle & GT-R Challenge, interested car owners must meet the below criteria before applying:

GT-Rs must have run a 9.9-second pass or better at the track or at Cootamundra

2WD cars must have run a 9-second pass at the track or a 10.5-second pass at Cootamundra 

AWD cars must have run a 9.9-second pass or better at the track or at Cootamundra

PLEASE NOTE

Meeting this criteria does NOT guarantee a spot. 

Each year we have over 200 applications, entries are capped at 60 cars this year.

Each entry is selected based on:

  • Previous event support

  • Entertainment factor for YouTube viewers

  • Fitting the allocation for each category

  • Performance criteria

GT-R CHALLENGE RULES AND REGULATIONS

TRUE STREET GT-R (Skyline GT-R)

As per True Street RH9 at GT-R Festival

Vehicle Registration and Compliance:

-Cars MUST have valid registration.

-Rego papers must match the VIN. An online check will be performed on arrival to check the VIN and registration match.

-Driver must have a valid driver’s licence.

*Note, we are currently working on solutions for vehicles that have been red label defected in recent transport department stings.

Fuel:

-Petrol or ethanol fuel only. Methanol is strictly prohibited.

Exhaust:

-The exhaust must exit at the rear bumper. Flapper valve and screamers under car are free.

Interior and Exterior:

-Full interior from front seats forward. Areas can be trimmed to fit a roll cage.

-Lightweight bumpers, hood, and boot permitted.

-Must have glass windows. Door windows must be functional.

-Lightweight doors are permitted if they have side intrusion bars and working windows.

-Factory monocoque shell and outer skin must remain intact.

-Rear guards can NOT be modified other than rolling and flipping.

Tyres:

-No slick tyres. Treaded drag radials allowed.

-Maximum 275mm wide tyre. Pro Radial sizes are NOT permitted.

Vehicle Components:

-The car must contain the complete Skyline GT-R 4WD system, i.e. Front diff, and shafts.

-Must have an RB or VR38 based engine.

Safety Requirements

-Driver must wear a helmet, long sleeve shirt and pants, and enclosed shoes.

-A four-point harness is recommended although not compulsory.

-Cars must be equipped with a tow point front and rear to allow recovery vehicles to flat tow.

-Cars must be equipped with a fire extinguisher securely mounted in the car.

R35 GT-R

Vehicle Registration and Compliance:

-Cars MUST have valid registration.

-Rego papers must match the VIN. An online check will be performed on arrival to check the VIN and registration match.

-Driver must have a valid driver’s licence.

Fuel

-Ethanol or Petroleum based fuels only.

-Treaded drag radial tyre.

Interior

-Full interior from front seat forward.

Safety Requirements

-Driver must wear a helmet, long sleeve shirt and pants and enclosed shoes.

-A 4-point harness is recommended although not compulsory.

-Cars must be equipped with a tow point front and rear to allow recovery vehicles to flat tow.

-Cars must be equipped with a fire extinguisher securely mounted in the car.

DRAG BATTLE RULES AND REGULATIONS

Vehicle Registration and Compliance:

-Cars MUST have valid registration.

-Rego papers must match the VIN. An online check will be performed on arrival to check the VIN and registration match.

-Overseas cars must be registered in their home country but meet the same rules.

-Driver must have a valid driver’s licence.

Fuel:

-The car must run on petroleum or ethanol-based fuel. Methanol is strictly prohibited. Nitrous is allowed.

-Cars MUST have a fuel tank installed in the rear of the car with a minimum of 40 litres, that provides fuel to the engine.

Exhaust

-Front engined cars must have an exhaust system that exits at the rear of the car PAST THE REAR AXLES. Exhaust gas must pass through this section of the exhaust.

-Flapper valves or secondary exhaust that direct air to a “dump pipe” under the car are permitted in between the chassis rails.

-Side pipes are NOT permitted and any outlet must not be visible from looking at the car.

-Rear engined cars the exhaust can exit through the engine cover or anywhere in the rear of the car’s bumper, bumper surround, boot lid or tail light garnish sections.

-Screamer pipe location is free.

Interior and Exterior:

-Interior trim from front seats forward. Cars with roll cages can trim or remove pieces of the interior for fitment.

-Windows must be functional.

-The car must run side view mirrors, unless not fitted from factory.

-The car must have window wipers fitted on the front windscreen and must work.

-Headlights must work. One can be removed for air intake.

-Indicators and brake lights must work.

-The metalwork of the monocoque chassis must not be cut or modified except for:

  • To fit intercooler pipes, intercooler and cooling system in front of the car.

  • Holes to fit fuel lines in and out of the boot.

  • Gearbox tunnel for fitment of larger gearbox.

  • 4-Link and Mini tubs that do not go any further inwards than the chassis rail are permitted.

  • Cars with aftermarket live rear ends are restricted to a 275 tyre.

  • Front “mini-tub” is allowed but the position of the shock tower can not change.

  • The spare wheel well can be cut out but can not be left open. Must have fuel system or new false floor.

  • Metalwork on outer guards is permitted for flaring and wide body.

-Lightweight bumpers, doors, hood and boot are permitted.

-Lexan side and rear windows are permitted. The front window must be glass.

Engine:

-Engine conversions are permitted as long as they fit within the factory engine bay and a bonnet fits with minimal modification.

Suspension:

-Must use original rear suspension layout.

-IRS stays IRS and live rear end remains live rear end.

-4-links can not extend past the original suspension area.

-Pick up points can be modified, but factory suspension layout and subframe must remain.

Tyres:

Tyres must be treaded radial construction.

Eligibility

-In 2024 we will be capping the event at 60 entrants.

-Entries will NOT be held until an entry form is completed and paid in full.

-The event is for post-1988 cars, with the exception being Japanese cars with post-88 model engines. For example, 13B in RX-3 or SR20 in Datsun 1600. We hold other events suitable for other cars including:

  • Muscle Car Challenge

  • Runway Thrash

An official adjudicator and scrutineer will check all cars comply with the rules upon arrival. Any entrants that do not pass the criteria will not be eligible to compete.

The event organisers reserve the right to accept cars for exhibition purposes or allow any rules to be waived under certain circumstances at the discretion of the event organisers.

The event organisers reserve the right to accept special vehicles of interest regardless of criteria eligibility.

The minimum requirements do NOT guarantee an entry, only that your entry will be placed onto the pending list and compared to other applicants.

TERMS OF ENTRY

Refunds are strictly not available for inability to attend. Exchanges, however, are permitted and you are able to exchange an entry for a pit crew ticket if your car is not ready or breaks down, you are also able to exchange your entry to another person/car, provided the correct information is recorded with the event organisers prior to or during sign on.

Drag Battle & GT-R Challenge is an outdoor event and is occasionally subject to adverse weather. We endeavour to go ahead whenever possible, however, if the weather poses a safety risk, the Event Manager may make the decision to discontinue or delay racing.

Refunds will not be issued if the event is delayed, postponed or called off due to adverse weather, however, your ticket will be rolled over to the next event or the following year.

BEHAVIOUR AND CONDUCT

Driver and pit crew behaviour is the responsibility of the entered driver.

Disruptive or abusive behaviour towards any attendees, competitors or staff will result in the removal of the offending person.

Drivers who violate track rules will receive a warning and may be ejected from the event for subsequent offences.

Please be aware that smoking and alcohol consumption are strictly prohibited inside the airport grounds.

There is a designated smoking area next to the terminal. Random breath tests will be conducted on drivers and crew members.

INSURANCE AND WAIVER

Drag Battle & GT-R Challenge is a private film shoot, not a public event, and is insured as such.

All attendees will be signed on and will be required to sign an indemnity form, waiving any rights for compensation due to injury.

Cootamundra Airport is a live airport during the event, all CASA regulations for aircraft landing or departing must be adhered to by all attendees, and any instructions given by the event organisers must be followed as directed.

Driver’s briefings are compulsory.

Please note that entry is at your own risk.

NO ATTENDEES UNDER THE AGE OF 18 ARE PERMITTED INTO THE VENUE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

Insurance does not cover any person under the age of 18 and minors are not permitted in the venue.

If any children are present, they must remain behind the fence at the terminal or in the carpark. As this is not a spectator event, we don’t recommend bringing children.

Please also note that the airport has limited infrastructure, including two toilets and no seated areas.

For those who wish to watch the racing from the viewing area, there are some marquees provided for shade and you are able to bring a fold out chair for seating.

No other marquees are permitted in the viewing area and parking in this area is not allowed.
